Flat Stanley in New York!
Flat Stanley spent some time in Clarence, New York. Clarence is the second town east of Buffalo, New York. It is the oldest town in Erie County, New York. Flat Stanley had lots of plans for his vacation.
When he found out he was going to Clarence, he was looking forward to seeing schools my grandpa Ed attended and the big Clarence Town Park. Flat Stanley was also looking forward to having dinner at the famous Asa Ransom House Bed and Breakfast and at the Old Red Mill Restaurant. Flat Stanley also wanted to see the Clarence Museum of European Art, The Escarpment Sanctuary, and the Hull House in Lancaster. Stanley wanted to do all of that and more!
He took his birth certificate and picture ID so he could walk over the Rainbow Bridge into Canada. He wanted to see Niagara Falls from both the American and Canadian sides.
Flat Stanley also wanted to see lots of things in Buffalo. He wanted to see a lot of buildings by famous architects. There was even a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright who is from Wisconsin. Flat Stanley wanted to see a lot of museums. He wanted to see the Buffalo and Erie County History Museum, the Albright-Knox Art Museum, the Science Museum, and the zoo.
HOWEVER, Poor Flat Stanley didn’t get to see any of these wonderful sights. Nobody released him from his envelope. He sat day after day inside a dark envelope waiting and waiting. He only had a bunch of other envelopes for company. Finally the other envelopes and Flat Stanley were put in a big envelope and dropped in a mailbox. Next thing he knew, he was on an airplane. He was excited; he thought he was going home after such a horrible and BORING trip. When he was in the plane he heard the pilot say that they would be landing in Ft. Meyers, Florida in 10 minutes. He heard the temperature was 86 degrees. He thought he was dreaming. He couldn’t figure out why he would be going to Florida.
Finally, the mystery was solved. He was released from his envelope by My Grandma Anne. She apologized to Flat Stanley for his terrible ordeal in Clarence. She wasn’t in Clarence, she was in Florida vacationing.
Flat Stanley did end up having a super time for the rest of his vacation. He visited many places and did many things in Florida. He went to Naples, Pine Island, and Cape Vanderbilt Beach. He went to the Randell Research Center, Manatee Park, Calusa Nature Center, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, the Imaginarium and the Ft Meyers Museum of History. Flat Stanley was happy he went to Florida. Next time he will have to call first to see when Grandma Anne will be in New York!
